THE TOWN CLERK

town board meeting dates for 2010

The Town Clerk's Office is frequently considered the center of Town government. It is not only the office responsible for recording the activities of Town government, but it is the central place where the documents and papers vital to the lives of the townspeople are filed.

The Town Clerk's Office in East Hampton is open Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, Saturday mornings from March 6 thru June 26, from 9 am to 12 noon. The Montauk annex is currently being relocated to the Montauk Playhouse Building and will be opening sometime in March, 2010.  Marriage licenses are done Monday thru Friday only, 9 am to 3:30 pm in the East Hampton Office only.  Call for a list of documents needed to obtain a license and/or for costs associated, all documents must be originals or certified copies. (631) 324-4142.

The Town Clerk serves as record keeper of all Town Board meetings, posts notices, and keeps minutes of those Board meetings. The Town Clerk issues certificates of birth, death, and other vital statistics; Town licenses/permits, beach parking permits, recycling permits, shellfish permits, marriage licenses, New York State hunting and fishing licenses, and dog licenses.

Starting in 2010 the town will once again be issuing FREE resident beach parking permits.

If you have a old permit, issued between 2003 and 2008 or a permit issued in 2009 that is legible and has a proper license plate number it is still valid you do not need to get a new  permit.

If you do need a new permit proofs of residency are: Vehicle registration with a local street address (not a post office box) within the Town of East Hampton; vehicle registration and deed for property in the Town of East Hampton in the same name; or voter registration card for the town and vehicle registration in the same name.

Fred Overton, the East Hampton Town Clerk is happy to announce that the public may now look up resolutions, minutes, legal notices, etc. done by the Town Board.
